What is the nominal value of gold / silver coins?

Im looking to buy gold and silver and I do not know what the point of the nominal value. happens if gold falls below $ 50 (thats the face of American Gold Eagle), then the party is worth $ 50 or $ 50 + or any of the above?

All documents produced by the Mint of the United States by the Congress leadership must have a nominal value of the room if they are intended for general circulation, anniversaries, collectors, or in the form of ingots. Names different currencies in circulation, in general, are more a formality and is not placed close to the intrinsic value of their metal content. With the establishment of a nominal value much lower than the value of precious metals, it avoids the confusion of what should be used for sales and purchase value.
